Pseudotumors in Small-Head Metal-on-Metal Total Hip Arthroplasties at a Minimum Follow-Up of 20 Years

چکیده
BackgroundMetal-on-metal (MOM) surfaces in total hip arthroplasty (THA) have been used widely. Serum cobalt and chromium levels the standard investigation for follow-up examinations, but magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with metal artifact reducing sequences has shown good results detecting pseudotumors. The aim of this study is to survey a significant correlation among MRI findings, serum levels, clinical scores patients small-head MOM implants if are sufficient pseudotumors long-term follow-up.MethodsAt minimum 20 years, 26 (29 THAs) original 98 (105 included between November 1992 May 1994 were available examination. Clinical scores, ion MRIs obtained.ResultsWe found mean 1.87 μg/L (±3.44) 2.23 (±2.96) very functional (mean Harris Hip Score 88.6) follow-up. Pseudotumors detected 21 hips. There no differences or without regarding outcome demographic data, cup inclination. cumulative rate survival was still at 91.4% 22.8 years.ConclusionThis presents first published data on hips, comparing pseudotumors, clinical, radiological period more than years reveals that not significantly higher pseudotumors.Level EvidenceTherapeutic Level III

Sequelae of large-head metal-on-metal hip arthroplasties
Large-head metal-on-metal (MoM) bearings were re-popularised in the late 1990s with the introduction of modern hip resurfacing (HR), followed closely by large metal head total hip arthroplasty (THA). A worldwide increase in the use of MoM hip arthroplasty subsequently saw a sharp decline, due to serious complications.MoM was rapidly adopted in the early 2000s until medical device alerts were is...
متن کاملIncreased Mortality in Metal-on-Metal versus Non-Metal-on-Metal Primary Total Hip Arthroplasty at 10 Years and Longer Follow-Up: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
IMPORTANCE There are concerns about increased mortality in patients with metal-on-metal bearings in total hip arthroplasty (THA). OBJECTIVE To determine the mortality and the morbidity in patients with metal-on-metal articulations (MOM THA) compared to patients with non-metal-on-metal articulations (non-MOM THA) after primary total hip arthroplasty. متن کاملThe early results of metal-on-metal hip resurfacing - a prospective study at a minimum two-year follow-up.
Hip resurfacing has recently been offered as an attractive alternative to conventional total hip arthroplasty. This report evaluated the short-term functional outcome and longevity of a newer generation resurfacing device and includes the results of 228 consecutive hip resurfacing in 209 patients at a minimum of two-year follow-up. All resurfacing were performed by a single surgeon using a post...

PURPOSE To investigate the cause of failure in matte-surface cemented stems in second-generation metal-on- metal total hip arthroplasty (THA). METHODS Records of 26 men and 11 women (39 hips) aged 29 to 72 years who underwent primary cementless THAs by a single surgeon using second-generation metal-on-metal prostheses and were followed up for a mean of 122 (range, 120-141) months were reviewe...
